Hosting for the Holidays

Sacramento during the holidays is such a joy. Whether it’s tree lightings or a visit to Apple Hill, there are so many holiday traditions to enjoy. If you’re looking for some holiday activities, check out this list of events that will put you in the spirit of the season!

Stress-Free Hosting:

Hosting can be SO LOVELY, but it can also be stressful! Some ways to help alleviate the hosting stress are to get started EARLY. A well organized and inviting home can really help you and your guests to be at ease. Start decluttering NOW so you’ll have less to do later. One of our favorite ways to help visitors feel at home is to offer them an abundance of storage in their room. If that means cleaning out that guest room closet, so be it! Another great tip is to prep your spaces for comfort. Grab those extra quilts or throw blankets and put them in the living room ahead of time. That way your loved ones can find just what they need to cozy up in front of the fireplace or favorite holiday movie.

Movement for Stress Management:

This one might feel like a lot but you don’t have to over complicate it. Movement is SO ESSENTIAL for managing stress. This doesn’t mean you have to spend multiple hours a week in the gym (if that’s your vibe then more power to you!) – this can mean taking a walk while you have something in the oven or take an after-dinner stroll through a scenic neighborhood (McKinley Park anyone?!) Melissa’s favorite way to get moving is to join Barre Class at Pure Barre Sacramento!

Creating Tranquil Spaces:

Helping your visitors be comfortable and stress free will also help YOU be stress free. If you can, create a peaceful and quiet space where someone can go to relax. That may mean extra cozy blankets or a nice candle in the spare room. Don’t make your guests feel like they can’t retreat to their space if they need to! Don’t have a big spare room for everyone? Get creative and see if you can make a cozy corner where someone can take a break from the action!

Meditation and Mindfulness in Your Home:

Meditation can be a HUGE help if you’re feeling the stress and pressure of hosting. Clearing your mind can help you focus your attention and eliminate the stream of jumbled thoughts that may be crowding your mind and causing stress. If you’re having a hard time getting started, we recommend grabbing a pan and paper to brain dump all of those to-do list items that are taking up space in your head.

Not good at relaxing at home when you KNOW there is just so much to do? Head to a meditation or yoga class where you can move and clear your mind in one go. Our favorite is Zuda Yoga, you can find them in Midtown, Folsom and Roseville.

Other ways to help your space feel serene may be playing soft music, turning on lamps and turning off those harsh overhead lights, or lighting a candle or two. If you can avoid it, create some tech free times when you can put down your phone or lap top and be present with yourself and your loved ones.

In conclusion, we hope that you’ll embrace the joy of hosting and the time you’ll get to spend together!
